Welcome To Agoura Hills

Nestled in the eastern Conejo Valley lies a beautiful, quiet neighborhood with a rich history: Agoura Hills. It’s an area that started life in a rather interesting way: although Chumash Native Americans had inhabited the land for the prior 10,000 years, Spanish missionaries settled the region in the late 1700s and set Agoura Hills’ modern history in motion.

After well over a century of ranching, the area picked up a new identifying feature as an ideal filming spot for the behemoth Paramount Pictures. Because of this association, the neighborhood was called Picture City for a while. However, the US Post Office had a “one word name” requirement for new cities at the time, and the inhabitants were forced to choose a new moniker. They finally settled on “Agoura”, an altered version of resident Pierre Agoure’s name, who was a colorful character and representative of the town at that point.

Besides its obvious preternatural beauty, Agoura Hills is also most closely associated with its thriving music scene. The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills is one of the greater Los Angeles area’s most relevant venues, and has provided a stage for countless music icons for decades.
