In 1923, Alphonzo Bell founded the Bel Air neighborhood, setting into motion the history of one of LA’s most famously affluent and beautiful areas. The area had a head start to respectability, as Mr. Bell’s wife chose mostly Italian-based names for the streets in the neighborhood.
As time went on, Bel Air established itself (along with Holmby Hills and Beverly Hills) as part of the “Platinum Triangle,” a group of suburbs that boasts the nicest conditions.
Of course, it would be remiss to talk about Bel Air without mentioning its place in popular culture. The legendary sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” was famously set in Bel Air, although nearby Brentwood was used for actual exterior shots. Additionally, the Beverly Hillbillies chose Bel Air for large swaths of footage, while movies like Get Shorty also desired a Bel Air backdrop.
