El Monte, the end of the historic Santa Fe trail and the place known as “Friendly El Monte,” is a pretty great place to find yourself. It’s one of the earliest historic settlements in Southern California, owing to the area’s unbelievably fertile agricultural conditions.
El Monte has the distinction of being the place where American variety TV shows were born. With “Hometown Jamboree,” 1950s America was introduced to a country-themed Saturday stage show that set the template for the entire genre. Not bad for a town that started life as a sleepy expanse of walnut groves!
Today, El Monte boasts over 100,000 residents, and has seen massive growth since it was the site of a Dust Bowl migrant influx in the 1930s. El Monte now has 10-plus employers that create over 250 jobs each, and has several dozen schools within multiple school districts.
El Monte is a big place, and getting bigger — so make sure you’ve got LA City Cab’s app or phone number handy so you can get a ride whenever you need it!
