Before Toluca Lake was developed, the Los Angeles Basin and the Toluca Lake area were inhabited by the Tongva native people for over 8,000 years. Eventually, in 1893, the distinguished business magnate General Charles Forman purchased a large parcel of land that included the area we now know as Toluca Lake. Toluca Lake gets its name from the 6 acre natural lake within its borders that is filled primarily by Los Angeles River groundwater. The lake is privately owned, and not accessible to the public.
The Toluca Lake area has been called home by such stars as Frank Sinatra and Amelia Earhart. Even former president Reagan and his wife Nancy had their wedding reception in Toluca Lake!
